Taking a leap and jumping into the unknown are metaphors that give us an image of what it means to do something without knowing what the outcome may be. Taking chances and putting yourself out there gives you a 50/50 chance of pushing yourself either to fail or succeed, but there is no way of knowing what the outcome will be without trying.
The saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” is one of the most accurate phrases because a picture doesn’t confine but rather gives us the opportunity to use our imaginations to see every detail of an image. So, if an image is worth a thousand words, a GIF can be worth ten thousand.
A backflip is an ultimate example of jumping without knowing what is below you, behind you, or if it’s even going to work out. There’s a chance you can fall on your back, land on something below without seeing it, or jumping into the water below with perfect form.
I chose to create an animated GIF of a backflip in the water to represent the chance of failure, but also the chance of successfully and flawlessly landing in the water. Life is about taking chances and doing things that scare you because there is a chance the reward could be completely worth it.
This animated GIF was created in Adobe Photoshop by cutting down a video and transforming the clip into segments, then speeding up the footage and continually looping the clip.
